A SBNeC, fundada em 1977, é uma sociedade científica sem fins lucrativos, que hoje conta com mais de dois mil associados oriundos das diversas áreas das neurociências. Nossa principal missão é promover a disseminação do conhecimento relativo aos vários aspectos do funcionamento do sistema nervoso, interdisciplinares por excelência: de processos moleculares e subcelulares a comportamentos integrativos, da função normal a distúrbios e suas terapias, de técnicas de estudo e abordagens empíricas à construção de modelos teóricos, matemáticos ou computacionais, da ciência básica às aplicações em diferentes áreas do conhecimento, além de possíveis desdobramentos pedagógicos, éticos, sociais e filosóficos.
